Titanium nitride is a hard ceramic material that increases the cutting life of high-speed drills by 300-400%, even when sharpened.

Titanium Aluminum Nitride can also increase usable tool life by 500% or more.

As the name suggests, black oxide is a black coating that is an inexpensive option that provides both heat resistance and lubricity while resisting corrosion. If coated with black oxide, the service life of high speed steel drills will increase.

Titanium carbon nitride is also a coating for drill bits and is considered better than TiN.

Diamond powder is commonly used to cut stone, tile and other hard, brittle materials. It acts as an abrasive so it can get very hot if not combined with a watering system to keep the drill bit and surrounding material cool.

Zirconium Nitride is a Craftsman brand drill coating.

Aluminium Chromium Nitride N is made of alternating superhard ceramic nanolayers. It performs very well compared to other coated and uncoated bits and is mainly used for drilling carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) and CFRP-Ti stacks.

BAM coating stands for Boron Aluminum Magnesium Coating and is a ceramic coating commonly used in composite drilling.
